Effingham County Leaders Meet to Celebrate the Launching of Handle with Care Program
Effingham County knows that it’s all about supporting our youth!
Last week members of Effingham Family Connection met with superintendent Dr. Yancy Ford, Effingham County School staff, Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, Guyton Police Department, Rincon Police Department, and Springfield Police Department to discuss the recently launched Handle with Care Program.
If a child has been exposed to a traumatic experience where police interactions or otherwise exposure has occurred, local law enforcement will send a notice to the appropriate school officials. This notification will not divulge confidential information; rather, it will simply state: the child’s name, approximate age, school attended if known, the approximate time of the event, and the acronym HWC for Handle with Care. This will allow school personnel to know that something traumatic happened in that child’s home and to support these students with extra compassion and care.
A luncheon last week allowed all of these leaders to come together, to shake hands, and to celebrate the connection benefitting our youth.
